COMARRC’ S INTRODUCTION

As I reflect on the last six months here at the ARRC it is clear to me that our Headquarters has not only met the challenges placed before it but has grown stronger, more capable, and more cohesive in the process. The recent success of Exercise AVENGER TRIAD 25 stands as a testament to the professionalism, adaptability, and operational excellence of our team. This complex and demanding multinational exercise showcased our ability to integrate new capabilities, respond dynamically to evolving scenarios, and execute missions to the highest of standards. Your performance was outstanding, with plaudits received from across the MCLCC Headquarters, as well as from those who came to visit.
This success is no accident. It reflects the steady growth and development of our Headquarters over the past few months, both through the THOR series as well as conceptually through the various TTXs and Study Days that we have been running. The addition of new capabilities and the integration of new Divisions and Brigades have significantly enhanced our breadth. These reinforcements have brought not only increased capacity but also fresh perspectives and renewed energy, strengthening our collective resilience and sharpening our edge. The Headquarters is now more agile, more robust, and better prepared to meet the demands of our mission.
Beyond the operational sphere, our community spirit has flourished. Two standout events on the social calendar— the King’ s Birthday Reception and International Families Day— were delivered with exceptional style and warmth. The King’ s Birthday Reception was a dignified and memorable occasion, reflecting the deep respect and tradition that underpin our service. International Families Day, meanwhile, was a vibrant celebration of the diversity and unity that define our community. Both events were not only well-attended but deeply appreciated, reinforcing the bonds between our personnel, families, and international partners.
As we look ahead, we do so with confidence and pride. The past six months have proven that Imjin Barracks is not just a place of work— it is a thriving, dynamic community, united in purpose and rich in spirit. We thank all who have contributed to our successes and look forward to building on them in the years to come.

After four months serving you as your Command Sergeant Major( Comd SM), I am inspired by the exceptional dedication our regular, reserve, and civilian workforce display every day. Your output is extremely important, and you each play a pivotal part in the journey to becoming a fully enabled Strategic Reserve Corps for SACEUR and UK Defence. To achieve this, we must unite the strengths of our regular, reserve, and civilian networks as they are key to achieving readiness. Promoting an attitude of professionalism in trade, battle craft, and administration in camp, will allow people to thrive and feel valued; treating every task as a mission rehearsal must be our mindset. As the journey to becoming a fully enabled Corps matures, we must maximize our strengths through persistent innovation and collaboration, whilst always acknowledging that our people are our most important asset.
With people at the centre for all that we do, the ARRC’ s multinational DNA adds a powerful layer of resilience through cultural diversity. However, to capitalise on this strength, we must embrace our differences and see our diversity as a force multiplier, not a weakness. To support this golden thread, I require everyone to promote good behaviour through positive role modelling across our Alliance. As stated in COM ARRC’ s behaviours directive,“ People and their behaviours are what deliver results to the organisation. Not systems, not processes, not computers, not machines”. By operationalising good behaviours and positive role modelling, the ARRC will create a safe and welcome space for all service personnel and civil servants to thrive, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender. Generating an open and inclusive culture, where individuals feel comfortable to ask for help will ensure our people receive the support they deserve.
On a final note, prior to summer leave the ARRC bid farewell to Comd SM Harley Upham after a fantastic two years in appointment. His leadership, guidance, and reputation have set the benchmark for all around our Alliance, and I personally thank him for leaving the appointment in a better place. The ARRC wishes newly promoted Major Upham and his family all the best for the future and we look forward to his return as the Executive Officer in the newly formed Corp Troops Support Element( CTSE) in summer 2026 post successful completion of ICSC( L).
Thank you to you and your families once again for your unwavering commitment. I am honoured to serve you as your Comd SM and look forward to the challenge of shaping a stronger warfighting ARRC – Audentis Fortuna Luvat.
