Forged in Fire: The Relentless Excellence of the Battalion
In a year defined by challenge and triumph, the Battalion has emerged as a shining example of professionalism, resilience, and camaraderie. From the precision of competitive shooting to the heights of Kilimanjaro, our soldiers have demonstrated that excellence is not an act, but a habit.
Dominating the Range
The Battalion’ s shooting team has set a new benchmark for operational marksmanship. Their victory at the Corps Operational Shooting Competition was a testament to technical mastery and relentless training. Adding a silver accolade at the fiercely contested AGC Triple Crown Challenge, the team continued to build momentum.
At the Army Operational Shooting Competition in Bisley, the Battalion stood tall among 33 units, securing an impressive second place overall— just behind 1 Royal Gurkha Rifles. Six firers were selected for the British Army team, which went on to win the Inter-Service Championship. Among them, Cpl Jiwan Limbu stood out as a driving force, whose leadership as Team Manager was instrumental in the team’ s success.
Adventure with Purpose
Beyond the battlefield, the Battalion embraced the spirit of adventure. On Exercise OLYMPUS STRIKE, over 50 personnel ventured into the rugged terrain of the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus. Climbing, mountain biking, and hiking pushed individuals beyond their limits, fostering resilience and unity. The experience also offered a rich cultural immersion, strengthening bonds within the team.
Exercise UHURU STRIKE in Tanzania took adventure to new heights- literally. Led by the Adjutant, the team successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro. The physical and mental endurance required was immense, and every soldier returned with a renewed sense of pride and accomplishment.
Sharpening the Edge
Operational readiness remains at the heart of the Battalion’ s ethos. Exercise KHUKURI WARRIOR provided a rigorous platform for urban warfare and live fire tactical manoeuvres. For many younger soldiers, it was their first exposure to high explosive grenades— a formative experience that reinforced the fundamentals of soldiering. Training up to platoon level allowed experimentation, confidence-building, and the refinement of tactical skills.
Honouring the Past, Engaging the Present
On Exercise CASSINO SPEAR, soldiers travelled to Italy for a battlefield study of the four Battles of Monte Cassino. The journey concluded in Rome, offering both historical reflection and cultural enrichment. The lessons drawn from 1944 continue to resonate, informing today’ s challenges and solutions. Closer to home, the Battalion proudly participated in Gloucester Armed Forces Day. With a marching contingent and a dedicated stand, the event reaffirmed the enduring bond between the Battalion and the community it serves.
Looking Ahead
With teams preparing for Trail Walker and Cambrian Patrol, the Battalion shows no signs of slowing down. Each challenge is met with determination, each success built on the foundation of hard work and unity. The Battalion’ s recent journey is more than a series of accomplishments— it’ s a reflection of character, discipline, and the unwavering spirit of its soldiers. Whether on the range, the mountain, or the battlefield, they continue to impress at every opportunity.

Global Footprint
The Battalion’ s reach extended across continents. A troop deployed to Malaysia for Exercise BERSAMA LIMA, representing the unit on the international stage. Meanwhile, preparations ramped up for the Battalion’ s main NATO commitment: Exercise AVENGER TRIAD, a cornerstone of multinational interoperability and strategic readiness.
