Your Generosity Means So Much to Rosie!
Rosie receives fresh produce through the Nourishing Neighbors program
When you donate to the North Texas Food Bank, you support a variety of innovative programs— like Nourishing Neighbors. Through this initiative, you are reaching homebound seniors like 91-year-old Rosie.
Originally from Ennis, Rosie moved to upstate New York, where she completed college, married and worked at her local city hall for 44 years before returning to Dallas to help care for her late sister. Today, she lives with her niece and her niece’ s son.
Rosie said she appreciates the help her family members offer her, but being the independent woman she is, she prefers to do as much on her own as possible. This includes providing her own meals, which has become increasingly difficult due to her health problems and living on a very modest fixed income.
Thanks to a tip from her doctor, Rosie connected with the Food Bank’ s Nourishing Neighbors program. Now a local volunteer delivers nutritious food, including fresh produce, right to her door every two weeks.
“ I enjoy everything in those boxes.”
“ I enjoy everything in those boxes,” Rosie said, expressing her sincere gratitude.“ I used to purchase everything myself. Sometimes I didn’ t have enough. That’ s why this helps me so much.”
Rosie describes the volunteer who has been visiting her for the past six months as someone she now considers a good friend. She says it feels like she has known her for 50 years.
As someone who is not able to drive to the grocery store, Rosie is beyond thankful to have the dual services of food and companionship.
“ I feel like I’ m blessed every day,” she said.“ I’ m so grateful.”
Because of you, seniors are able to receive the food they need— even if they are not able to make a trip to a Partner Agency. Rosie is just one example of many other happy stories made possible because you choose to give so generously to the North Texas Food Bank. Physical Address: 4500 S.
