New Americans can build healthy futures , thanks to you .
When Tena , his wife and their three young children emigrated from Africa in 2018 , it was daunting to navigate how to build a new life in America . While working full-time and attending data analysis school , money was tight , and Tena often worried about putting food on the table .
“ I was working in a warehouse and going to school , and we had barely enough to pay our bills ,” Tena says . “ I felt like I couldn ’ t make anything right for my son and daughters .”
Thankfully , Tena ’ s wife learned about the North Texas Food Bank , and their family began visiting one of our food distribution partners for weekly staples like fresh vegetables and bread .
“ When we came to America , we left everything . Here , we found help to start again ,” Tena shares . “ This food is like a bridge to help us keep moving forward .”
Now a graduate of technology school , Tena is thankful that he can rely on the North Texas Food Bank . Because of friends like you , he can continue providing healthy food for his family while he looks for a job in his new field .
“ I just want to say thank you to everybody — all those who are giving and volunteering and taking the time to do this work ,” Tena says . “ I take it like a gift from God , and I will never forget it .”
