Bennie’s thrilled to fill her cabinets
with healthy groceries from Grand
Prairie United Charities.
Bennie Is Giving Thanks for You
The day we met Bennie, a
widow in her 90's, she admitted
to being tired. She said she’d
spent the morning climbing up
and down a ladder nailing her
falling kitchen cabinets back up
on the wall by herself.
“I’ve always been strong and I
see to it now that I’m strong as
I can be,” said Bennie. “I don’t
even suggest that I give up.”
After raising their children in
North Texas and having a long
career that included working in
an airplane factory and for the
Navy, she and her husband, who
was in the military, were both
forced into retirement for health
reasons. That was when she first
learned about the food pantry at
Grand Prairie United Charities.
Bennie’s husband has since
passed away and her children
all live out of town. She relies on
your generosity to keep food on
the table when her budget won’t
stretch to include the healthy
groceries she needs.
“I thank you
graciously.”
“I’m diabetic and I’m supposed to
eat the right things,” said Bennie.
“This is what I consider sometimes
as a lifesaver,” she added in
reference to the food pantry.
With just a small fixed income to
depend on, Bennie’s so glad she
has a Food Bank partner agency
to turn to when she isn’t able to
afford groceries on her own.
“I thank you graciously,” she
says to friends like you. “[You’ll
be] blessed for helping people
who are less fortunate.”
Deserving neighbors like
Bennie give thanks for your
generosity every day. You
ensure our community’s elders
can maintain their health and
dignity in their golden years.
