Join the 5th Annual Plano
Peanut Butter Drive
Mayor Harry LaRosiliere and
Plano City Council encourage the
community to get involved!
“Thank you for giving us healthy food and making my
stomach feel better.”
Without healthy, nourishing food, children tend to
fall behind in school. In severe cases, it can affect their
physical development too.
In conjunction with Hunger Action Month,
the City of Plano is gearing up for the 5th
Annual Peanut Butter Drive during the month
of September. Yet sadly, as many school teachers can tell you, too
many students experience hunger after school and over
the summer. In fact, one in four North Texas children
faces food insecurity.
Mayor LaRosiliere says, “By donating a
jar of peanut butter, you’re helping someone in
your community, people that you might even
know and that you just don’t realize are in that
situation.” “Teachers hear the students tell them on Thursday
morning that their last meal was Wednesday lunch,”
says Madison Messinger, the Child Programs Team
Lead at the North Texas Food Bank.
Last year, the effort raised more than 30,000 pounds of peanut
butter. This year, there is an ambitious goal to collect 50,000 pounds
of peanut butter to help feed hungry North Texans.
There are over 44,000 food insecure children in Collin County alone.
Hunger can be a hidden issue in any community. The City of Plano helps
to raise awareness surrounding the issue of food insecurity for children,
seniors and families in the hope that others will get involved in the fight
against hunger.
Companies and organizations can register to host their own drive, or
individuals can collect jars and drop them off at the five public drop-off
sites throughout Plano, including the North Texas Food Bank’s newly
opened Perot Family Campus.
If you’re hosting your own drive, be sure to register online in order
for NTFB to help with the logistics, such as coordinating a pickup upon
completion. But hurry . . . this drive is for the month of September only!
Public drop-off sites are:
• Plano Municipal Center: 1520 K Ave., Plano, TX 75074
• Davis Library: 7501-B Independence Pkwy., Plano, TX 75025
