Board of Directors Executive Committee Trisha Cunningham President & CEO Fueling Their Education Because of you, children across North Texas have food for thought . . . With the start of a new school year just around the corner, many families are thankful they’ll once again be able to count on two meals for their children each weekday. But what about the little ones who aren’t yet in school? And what happens on the weekends? There’s still much work to be done to solve the problem of childhood hunger. That’s why the North Texas Food Bank has several different programs and partnerships that focus on feeding children when they aren’t at school — and your support helps make this possible! In this newsletter, you’ll meet people whose lives you’ve helped change through your compassionate generosity. Because of you, families, like Juani’s, will be fed and children, like Armonte, will have a chance to succeed. The start of school also brings Hunger Action Month in September, when people nationwide stand together to fight hunger. As well as North Texas Giving Day, an 18-hour day of online giving on September 19. We ask you to join us in spreading the word and taking action on the hunger crisis. Thank you for continuing to partner with us in the fight against hunger. With every gift, you’re making a lifesaving difference for families in North Texas. Thank you for helping neighbors in need Juani and her husband were used to sticking to a tight budget. But when their second child was born and Juani was unable to work, her husband became the sole provider for their family of four, and money was tighter than ever. “Everything is expensive,” Juani says. “The food, the rent and the rest. We only have the money my husband makes.” Thankfully, Juani was connected to the food pantry at the Wilkinson Center, which is one of our Partner Agencies. She began visiting eight months ago, while her youngest child was still a baby. “Coming here helps me to worry less,” Juani says. “I feel like I am helping my husband a little bit with food.” Juani’s oldest, 12, has autism and follows a special diet. Because of the fresh produce and other nutritious options available at the food pantry, Juani can give her daughter the food she needs to stay healthy and strong. With school about to start, her daughter can once again count on free breakfast and lunch each weekday. While that’s one less worry for Juani, the entire family still relies on the pantry for the food they need for their remaining meals and nutritional needs. Sadly, her story is all too familiar. Many families in North Texas cannot afford the healthy food they need to survive. That’s why your support is so crucial. When you give generously to the North Texas Food Bank, you ensure that shelves will be stocked with nutritious food for neighbors like Juani and her family.
