STREETS
Pitch it right
Did you know that illegal street trading is one of the
issues that the council’s street services department
will be dealing with this winter?
W
ith Christmas
approaching there will
be plenty of people
selling goods in the street.
Of course, a thriving local economy
is a good thing, but you cannot just
trade on the public highway without
a licence. The council regulates all
trading activity in public areas and on
private forecourts, to make sure the
pavements and roads are safe and
kept clear of obstructions.

Sometimes, shops spill out too far on
to the pavement and create a trip hazard
for pedestrians and shoppers because
there is not enough space. Other times,
people sell things without having a
licensed, designated sales pitch.
In either case, Ealing Council has the
authority to take action. And patrols of
officers are out on the borough’s streets
every day keeping an eye on who is
selling what, and where.
