With the arrival of Crossrail
in 2019, you will be in one
of London’s best connected
boroughs. This will amplify the
growing buzz of regeneration,
growth and opportunity for
residents and businesses.
Crossrail
Crossrail is Europe’s largest construction project, and is
also a massive regeneration opportunity. From 2019, trains
will stop at five stations in the borough, and Ealing Council
is working closely with Crossrail to make sure residents
benefit as much as possible. Council leader Julian Bell
recently examined progress on the tunnels under Tottenham
Court Road, and was accompanied by local apprentice
Jasmeet Bhurjee (our front cover star). Younger generations
will be better connected to job opportunities across London
than ever before - as well as among the first to benefit if new
E
arlier this year, Property Week
called Ealing ‘the standout area of
west London’ in terms of economic
and regeneration potential. There
are already a lot of plans in place and
projects under way. So, across three pages,
we give you a taste of just some.

You will see throughout this magazine an
array of additional, related work going on
to improve the lives of local people – from
apprenticeship schemes to renovations of
heritage sites and, in the case of Southall
Manor House, a new life for a landmark
building. It is all about creating opportunities
– for places to live, for jobs and for ways to
improve our neighbourhoods.

investment is pulled into the borough.
The route that Crossrail trains will travel on will be called
the Elizabeth Line and it will stop at Southall, Hanwell,
West Ealing, Ealing Broadway and Acton Main Line stations.
Journey times between Southall and Canary Wharf will be
cut to just 31 minutes and from Ealing Broadwa y to central
London to just 11 minutes. The five stations, and the spaces
directly outside each of them, are all receiving an upgrade –
with Ealing Broadway having a comprehensive redesign after
pressure from the council.
Councillor Bell said: “Ealing will become an inner London
borough for travel times, but an outer London borough for
quality of life. The areas around these stations are already feeling
the ‘Crossrail effect’ and are becoming development hotspots,
bringing new jobs and opportunities to our residents.”
