Watch as outhouse is demolished When outbuildings are built without permission in gardens, often then being illegally rented out as living quarters, the council has the power to order their demolition. When they are rented illegally, they are often referred to as ‘beds in sheds’. The council issues an enforcement notice first, ordering the building be taken down; but if this is not done within a specified period the council can then potentially send a team in to demolish it. Register for monthly emails at www.ealing.gov.uk/register Mayor of London elections With the elections around the corner for the next mayor of London, and London Assembly, people are being reminded to make sure they are registered to vote. The elections will be held on 5 May 2016 and the last day you can register to vote is 19 April. The system changed last year to mean everyone must register individually, rather than one person being able to register an entire household. Ealing Council was given gold status for overall impact of horticulture, environmental management and community participation. Walpole Park, Ealing, was awarded gold in the large park category; and the Litten Nature Reserve, Greenford, was given gold and category winner for small conservation area. Meanwhile, Southfields Recreation Ground, Acton, won a silver gilt award in the conservation area category; and St Mary’s churchyard, Ealing, won silver and category winner for churchyard of the year.
