Amber Arcades performing at the Hootie
Hootie loud and proud
The seventh Hanwell Hootie music festival brought thousands of
people to the town in May to take in the ear-tingling prospect of
100 bands across 17 venues.
From local acts to successful bands with sell-out European tours like
Keywest, there was a wide range of talent – and styles – on show. A
musical comedy tent also proved popular, as did the free Hootie bus
that took people from one venue to another – which included two
outdoor ‘festival’ areas as well as a number of local pubs and a church.

Borough ‘safe zone’
Ealing Council’s safer communities team has been asking
for your views on a proposed borough-wide public spaces
protection order (PSPO). A consultation started in April and will
close on Sunday, 9 June.
There are several PSPOs already in operation in different parts
of the borough, including Southall and West Ealing town
centres. They give the police and council officers powers to
tackle anti-social behaviour in public spaces – ranging from
street drinking to fly-tipping.

Hundreds of local people have had
their say on proposed changes to the
borough’s libraries and children’s
centres. Residents could respond
online, using paper forms or by going along to
one of the public meetings held over the 12-week
consultation. Council officers are now analysing all
of the replies before compiling reports, including
recommendations on the future shape of both
services. The reports will be considered by the
council’s decision-making cabinet in July.
Hanwell Carnival
will be
held on Saturday, 15 June. It is thought to be
the longest-running event of its kind in London.
Catch the famed parade as it makes its way
from Hanwell Community Centre to Elthorne
Park in Boston Road where the main event takes
place, including an ever-popular dog show. Visit
www.hanwellcarnival.co.uk for more details. The
event is run and organised by the community.
