Hurry, because as Around Ealing went to press, almost a fifth of the positions had already been filled. The 100-in-100 campaign, which ran between September and December, aimed to create 100 pledges for apprenticeship job vacancies in 100 days, giving 16-24 yearolds access to employment and training. Offers to recruit apprentices have come from a range of different sectors including education, the legal profession, catering, medical and the motor industry. It is the second year the campaign has run and, for the second time, the target of 100 placements has been smashed. It draws the council closer to its aim of 500 new apprenticeships by 2018. It is not just apprentices who benefit. According to the National Apprenticeship Service, 96% of employers that take on an apprentice have reported advantages to their businesses – including an increase in staff motivation, boosting productivity and making a positive investment for the future. WANT TO KNOW MORE? If you think you have what it takes to fill an apprenticeship position, go online at www.ealing.gov.uk/apprenticeships to find out more or call 020 8825 6234. Businesses interested in taking on apprentices can contact the same number, any time of the year. NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK Co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, the National Apprenticeship Week (9-13 March) is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy. Events organised by the council will include: Afternoon tea with the mayor of Ealing, a promotional event for health and social care employers, and a charity fundraising challenge for council apprentices. around ealing Spring 2015 39
