LIBRARIES
‘We are really excited’
Hanwell Library will be managed by Ealing Law Centre. Vicky
Fewkes, a solicitor at the centre, said: “The library does not just
mean a hub for the community, where you can borrow books,
but also for other services we are hoping to provide.
“We are really excited and what we hope to do is keep the core
library service operating, but also open further during evenings
and weekends. We are hoping the expertise in the law centre
will mean local people coming in will also find it easier to access
advice and assistance.”

‘Opportunity for change’
West Ealing Library will be managed by
volunteering organisation Ealing CVS, and one
of its volunteers Maggie Stovold said: “You
feel a sense of excitement, because it is an
opportunity to throw the pieces in the air and
use spaces differently. It is a balancing act of
keeping something going, while maybe also
being an opportunity for change and growth.”
‘We had a huge
response’
Jenny Oldroyd, chair of trustees
at Northfields Community
Library, spoke of her excitement
about taking over the library, and
said: “We’ve had a huge response
from the local community to keeping
the library open, being able to run it as
a community managed library that keeps it here for children,
adults and for older people for years to come. It is well used
library, it is a well-run library; and we are really excited about the
chance to keep that legacy going over the next few years.”

Ealing CVS also hopes to use the library
as a base to encourage more people to
volunteer locally as part of its existing
