At Northolt High School , we have been concentrating in the last two years on developing two aspects of our school – our curriculum and our community . Throughout all of our work supporting our students and families during the pandemic , we have retained a relentless commitment to this developmental work . As we look forward to reopening our school to a more ‘ normal ’ way of operating in September , we will do so having not just endured the last two years but having become stronger as a result of this experience .
OUR CURRICULUM Our Subject Leaders have each developed clear curriculum maps which explain the academic journey our students go on as they learn at Northolt High School . We believe that each of the subjects we study form part of a wider conversation . It is our job to equip our students with the knowledge , skills and understanding to be able to engage in those wider conversations . Our curriculum is designed to return to core concepts and skills as our students ’ progress . As you browse through the curriculum pages on our website ( www . northolthigh . org . uk ), you will see how the concepts taught in key stage 3 are returned to and built upon in later years , so that students are able to develop their understanding and application of knowledge in increasingly sophisticated ways . OUR COMMUNITY In the Autumn term of 2019 we began our work towards achieving Ealing ’ s Family
School Partnership Award . This award supports schools to improve the ways in which they work to involve families in the life of the school . Using staff and parent surveys , we identified key areas for further improvement . We trained our staff team , improved our website and launched a weekly newsletter to families as part of our drive to ensure that communication with parents was improved . This journey has helped us to ensure that our parents are now partners in the way we shape our school . We now survey parents regularly to gain their feedback and input into school life , and check that we have parents ’ support for any changes we ’ re proposing to make . The pandemic offered us a real opportunity to forge closer bonds with our families . We are proud to report that we are the first Ealing High School to receive the Family School Partnership Award .
OUR NEW SCHOOL Our other major news is that we are progressing well on our mission to build a brand new school for our students . We have worked with Ealing Council to develop outline plans for an exciting new building . It will contain state of the art facilities for our students and will significantly improve the quality and range of our sports provision . We ’ re also building a Performing Arts and Cinema Centre which we intend to be available ( along with our sports facilities ) for community use in the evenings and weekends . The work at the moment is focused on installing temporary accommodation on our school site to enable us to move out of one of our school buildings . Once vacated , demolition of this old building will begin so that the new one can be developed on this space . We can ’ t wait to see this work start .
