Local history talks ■ 20 October: The Great Western Railway by David Blackwell. The GWR was a great engineering achievement for its engineer, the young Brunel, and his legacy lives on today. Talk looks at the local history of this railway and its structures. ■ 10 November: Ealing’s Aeronautical History by Paul Lang. Did you know that there was an Acton aerodrome, one of the first RAF bases at Northolt, an aircraft factory in Acton and an aeroplane crash in Southall? Talk looks at the impact of aviation on the borough. ■ 17 November: The Last Battle on English Soil by Dr Jonathan Oates. 2015 marks the tercentenary of the last battle on English soil (1715), which took place at Preston in Lancashire.
