GET MOVING Sports awards are back “The nomination process isn’t hard. Just say what you do and why you love it,” said Chris Smith, secretary at Ealing BMX Club, which took the title of Junior Club of the Year at the 2018 Ealing Sports Awards. The awards are back, as Jessica O’Neil-Shaw reports. N ominations are open for the 2019 Ealing Sports Awards, sponsored by Everyone Active. It is your chance to recognise the outstanding achievements of local club members, coaches, volunteers and clubs themselves. You can nominate until 1 May 2019. And it can make a real difference to those who receive deserved recognition. “Winning the award was fantastic recognition of our dedicated coaches, riders and volunteers,” Chris added. “The award confirmed the credibility of the club and has helped us encourage more children and young people to give it a go.” The aim of the awards is to recognise and celebrate the sporting achievements of local clubs and individuals that inspire people of all ages and abilities to take part in sporting activities in the borough. ‘SPORT PROVIDES ENJOYMENT TO SO MANY PEOPLE’ Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, the council’s cabinet member for finance and leisure, said: “After the success of the first two annual Ealing Sports Awards, I am delighted that we’re able to host them again to showcase sporting talents of all ages and highlight the outstanding contributions made by local volunteers, sports coaches, clubs and community organisations to the health and wellbeing of local residents. “Involvement in sport provides so much enjoyment to so many people, as well as providing opportunities at every level for people of all abilities to meet new friends, improve their health, become part of a team, help others, achieve personal goals and lots more. I’d encourage everyone involved in sports in the borough to make sure they nominate.” For more details and to nominate, visit ealingnewsextra/features/ sports-nominate around ealing    April/May 2019 15
