MTMPP Regional Grant Final Report Reporting Period: July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025
Aroostook County Tourism( ACT) is a program of the Maine Office of Tourism( MOT) hosted by Northern Maine Development Commission( NMDC). ACT is the Destination Marketing Organization of Maine’ s Aroostook County, as designated by MOT. Here, four seasons of recreation along fantastic networks of famous trails provide both Aroostook adventure and relaxation to visitors experiencing the quiet side of Maine.
Visit just once and you’ ll see, Aroostook is a place one may simply just be. Here, a vast patchwork of evergreen forests and generationally owned farms collide to spill over our borders into New Brunswick, Canada. ACT advanced its mission through strategic marketing, stakeholder engagement, and the completion of major infrastructure projects. Despite challenges that include a website rollout, shifting Canadian travel sentiment, and a mild Maine winter, ACT delivered high-impact initiatives that strengthened the region’ s collaboration, visibility, and visitor experience to Maine’ s Aroostook County.
The launch of a redesigned VisitAroostook. com was a cornerstone achievement in July of 2025. The new mobile-first site features improved navigation, rich photography, and deep information content hubs for activities, special offers, signature events, and business listings. Phase one is complete, with SEO and mapping tools underway. The site now serves as a central platform for both audiences of visitors and ACT Partners, streamlining fulfillment and enabling self-serve access to promotional tools.
ACT’ s“ Best of Aroostook” campaign sparked regional pride and digital engagement. Coasters, table toppers, and signage were displayed to capture votes and ask the public to use # VisitAroostook when uploading their epic Aroostook adventures to social media. Nearly 775 votes were cast and nine local businesses were honored by the people ' s participation in this fun initiative that increased Aroostook County pride. The campaign was loved by media outlets and earned media boosted traffic to the new website.
Stakeholder engagement surged. ACT hosted three Coffee and Tourism roundtables and the wellattended Aroostook County Tourism Summit, while the ACT Partners email subscribers more than doubled. The new ACT Partners Hub allows businesses to manage listings, access data, and navigate promotional opportunities to reinforce ACT’ s role as the leading resource for collaboration in development in northern Maine.
Three major print projects were completed: the Aroostook County ATV Map( 30,000 copies), the Regional Map( 20,000 copies), and the Aroostook: Official Travel Guide( 23,100 copies). These materials reflect updated branding and are distributed across Maine, New England, and eastern Pennsylvania. Fulfillment operations scaled up 70 % over the previous year, with nearly 2,000 packets mailed. Expanded distribution was made possible by willing partnerships and now includes Portland International Jetport and Getaways on Display across eastern Pennsylvania.
