In response, the Department of the Army directed the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) to build an action plan, which led to the development of the Warrior Transition Command (WTC) and warrior transition units (WTUs). The term for a Soldier in such a unit is “Soldier in transition,” which indicates that the Soldier is healing, rehabilitating, and preparing to successfully transition back to duty or into veteran status.
