known underground rapper who was part of a new hip-hop group BigHit was training. Together, they would become the first mem bers of BTS, and two-thirds of the rap line. Over time, the group would evolve to fit a more traditional boy-band structure, eventu ally debuting as BTS. 3 The hardships did not stop when SUGA be came a trainee at BigHit. Trying to afford his lifestyle in Seoul, he picked up a job as a newspaper boy and was in an accident that nearly destroyed his ability to dance. His shoulder was badly injured, but in fear of losing his position as a trainee he hid the in jury and worked through the pain for some time. In a dark place, he foudn himself strug gling with mental illness and coping with the pressures of fame. His mixtape Agust D , speaks about these low moments, and des pite living in a society that shies away from openly discussing mental health and suicide, SUGA candidly speaks about his struggles with both. In a 2018 interview with Naver, he proclaimed that "anxiety and loneliness seem to have been with me for life. I put a a lot of meaning on how I would work it out, but it seems like I have to study it for my entire life". While many of the lyrics SUGA pens are self-reflective, he is also known for his cun ning tongue and witty diss tracks. His lyrics are often insult-laden and savage, full of tri cky verses and double entendres. For his verse of "Cypher Pt. 3", he viciously raps, ''If you try to damage me with simple words like that! I only become stronger! The mysterious me is a bulgasari who grows by eating your jealousy and envy''
