Song #5 Home Continuing their expansion internationally, BTS chooses to use the Spanish phrase “mi Casa,” meaning home, in this song. It’s important to note that mi Casa is not used to describe a palace or mansion, but rather a small, intimate and humble dwelling. “The sense of home is also a home with a soul,” Dr. Stein informs us. “When you’re home with a soul, you’re in an intimate space that feels very comfortable.” For BTS, the feeling of “mi Casa” is back in South Korea, even though their trips take them far away. “Mi Casa” is in Seoul, “but home for them now is everywhere [because] their fans are everywhere.” Song #6 Jamais Vu The French term “déjà vu” is an intense feeling of “I’ve been here before.” Opposite of that is where we find jamais vu - being in a familiar place and having no memory of it. During a time of jamais vu, you might have to learn a lesson over and over. Jamais Vu is another song about struggle, but with the same repetitive feelings and behaviors. In Jungian psychology this is called a complex, stepping into the same situation and reacting the same way again and again. Did you learn from it? No, because the com- plex is too strong; the only way to break the cycle is with insight or intervention. When Jungkook sings, ‘Am I giving up? No, no never; I won’t give up’ it shows a determina- tion to stay on the path to individuation. It is important to recognize these complexes because it provides power and control to the self, reducing their severity. “That’s the struggle of individuation and fighting with our complexes,” Dr. Stein explains. “Becom- ing conscious and staying conscious is incredibly difficult.” 28
