The clues hinting towards Map of the Soul: Persona were noticed
during 2018 Melon Music Awards when BTS performed Fake Love.
The introduction VCR showed cloaked figures in distinctive masks
and a mirror with ‘ I show you not only your true side but also your fake
side ’ written backward. It piqued ARMYs interest further - especially
Potterheads - as it looked like the Mirror of Erised from Harry Potter.
The opening dance break for Fake Love also turned out to spell the
word ‘persona ’ - where each member’s silhouette mimed each letter.
BTS’ 2018 MAMA performance in Japan and Hong Kong also
presented fans with more traces that entailed the new era. Sentences
such as ‘searching for true self’, ‘so now I’m a boy with love’, and ‘I’ll
show you the map of the soul’ were shown in one of the intro VCRs,
as well as showing members with personalized masks that were pro-
jected onto their faces, prompting fans to start theorizing once again.
