The ability to share your Xbox library with up to 10 other people as well as being able to get a digital back up of every game you purchased were both removed from the system. The reason for that is because with the system now lacking an always-on requirement, there is no way to properly verify the legitimacy of game ownership. However do the negative aspects outweigh the benefits? No, the average consumer has shown that they value the freedom to exchange games as they please. And now to the elephant in the room, the addition of the Kinect.
You can disable the Kinect to some degree but it still has to be plugged into the system, and not only does it cause the price of the Xbox One to be $100 higher than the PS4 but of course there are the privacy concerns. This is going to be a massive PR issue for Microsoft to try and convince consumers that this giant monolith with a 3D scanning camera that possesses the ability to read ones heartbeat is not spying on them in some aspect. And while I don’t believe the Kinect is telling government agents that you happen to fancy Halo, it is obvious that it will be used for commercial purposes. And people will have to decide whether or not this is something they are comfortable with. And as a final note, how secure do you feel with a company that will pull a full reversal on their policies so quickly?
At the end of the day...
With all that said about both consoles there with undoubtably be close sales counts as always. On paper the PlayStation 4 sounds more practical and user friendly however the xBox 1 provides more in areas where the PlayStation doesn't. All of the console-exclusive games will be closely monitered by critics as to find who can sell more of their personal brands but in everyones eyes both consoles come out equally, beating eachother in different areas. Both consoles provide a link to IOS and Anroid devices allowing them to interlink between mobile and device gameplay. Games such as Battlefield and the Commander Mode which we will talk about in another preview soon uses this availability of mobile-device interlink.
