She moved to New York in 1982 to take acting lessons with Lee Strasberg. She auditioned for and was offred by director Robert Altman for the Broadway stage produc- tion. Cher credits Altman for launching her acting career: “Without Bob [Robert Altman] I would have never had a film career. Everyone told him not to cast me ... I am con- vinced that Bob was the only one who was brave enough to do it.” She was also seen in the movies “Mask” (director Pe- ter Bogdanovich), “Suspect“ (director Peter Yates), “The Witches of Eastwick” (director George Miller) and “Moon- struck” (director Norman Jewison), for which in 1988 she got two awards the “Oscar“ for the best female role and “Golden Globe”. In the 1990’s she appeared in the films “Mermaids” by Richard Benjamin, “Faithful” by Paul Mazursky, “If These Walls Could Talk” and released the albums “Love Hurts”, “It’s a Man’s World” and “Believe”.
