What do you like most about your job? I like the challenges and variety. I have such a unique job, it’ s a mash up of
Sandra Mendez several jobs, so I am
Executive Assistant / Records never bored. Besides
Management Supervisor Trico Electric Cooperative, Inc. being the records management supervisor, I am also the executive assistant to the CEO and board of directors, and I oversee all company travel and training.
How has the Internet affected your life? It has made my life easier. Having so much information at your fingertips is wonderful. It’ s amazing to be able to have access to virtually any information at your disposal.
If you were to teach a class what would you teach? I would like to teach meditation or something similar that would help people detach from every day stresses.
What hobby or activity that you not do now but think you might like when you retire? Golf.
What was the biggest perk of any job you had? Traveling. I’ ve been fortunate to have traveled to many great states and meeting so many people who experience the same job challenges as I do.
How many e-mails are sitting in your inbox? 60 + What technology scares you? Why? Some of the concerns I have are cyber security and identity fraud. These breaches have the potential to do such harm.
What technology bugs you when other people refuse to adopt it? Why or why not? The inability to accept changes to established work practices that would be an improvement. Recently my company made the change to issue a monthly report electronically instead of the usual printed copy. While this change makes for a more efficient work practice, it was met with a lot of resistance from the recipients. Some of the group embraced the change but the majority of the group did not see the benefits.
Would you be willing to live " off the grid "? Why or why not?
Sounds appealing, but I probably would not. Internet connectivity is too important. Work, entertainment, and everyday life is somehow connected to the internet. And who could live without Candy Crush?
What was your toughest accomplishment in your RIM career to-date? It has to be structuring the foundation of our records management program. When I started in this role 20 + years ago, the company had just begun to centralize its records. Being able to guide and shape the company’ s corporate records program has been very fulfilling.
