September 2016 2016 Student Student of of the the Month Month September Megan Nguyen, Arlington High School Megan is a wonderful, well-rounded student at Arlington High School. She participates in UIL Literary Criticism, the robotics team, National Honor Society, and the engineering and math clubs. She is a NASA Texas High School Aerospace Scholar and a Lockheed Martin Aeronautics intern. Nguyen was the captain of the Academic Decathlon team last year where she won gold in Language and Literature at the state competition. She volunteers for the Arlington Public Library Reading Corps and the annual spring Special Olympics competition. As the current topranked senior in the Class of 2017, Nguyen is enrolled in AP English, AP physics, AP stats, AP psychology, AP economics and AP calculus. She wants to major in engineering at the University of Texas at Austin after graduation. COUNTRY CRITTERS FARM 3709 County Rd. 617 Alvarado, 76009 817-477-3060 www.countrycrittersfarm.com Pumpkin Patch begins Sept. 24th and runs through November 6th Open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 5pm Open weekdays for field trips by reservations only Weekend admission: $12 per child and $10 per adult Weekday admission: $7 for groups with 30 or more students, $8 for groups with under 30 kids, kids 2 and under are free Open on Columbus Day, Oct. 10th from 10 am to 2 pm, no reservations needed Activities include: Bounce houses, tractor and train playground, petting zoo, pony ride (weekends only), barrel train ride, hay ride, wooden maze, duck races (ducks are $1), and game areas. Kids get to pick a pie sized pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and decorate it with markers. Kids also get to go to the story teller and hear a great story, while listening to the story, kids get a cookie and and apple juice and adults can have a slice of homemade pumpkin bread.
