Nonprofit Organizations Arlington ISD Education Foundation Awards Teacher Grants The Arlington ISD Education Foundation recently distributed 16 grants totaling a record-breaking $87,771.05 to 17 AISD campuses. Some of the projects funded include a STEM Academy Inspired Learners Camp, a collaborative Fine Arts Dual Language Library project, and a restart of the Jazz Band Program at Lamar High School. The Arlington High School Alumni Association also helped sponsor a $3666 grant through the Foundation for Bailey Junior High School for a project entitled “Shake, Rattle & Roll.” Bailey teacher Mark Cooper notes the project will engage students in problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity. Students will investigate and design structures to be tested in a simulated earthquake environment and analyze the results of the activity. Last year the Foundation distributed $80,866.32 in teacher grants. Since 1994, the Education Foundation has awarded classroom instruction grants to all AISD campuses totaling more than $1.4 million. To recognize recent grant recipients, the Arlington ISD Education Foundation hosted its first annual Dream Makers Banquet on Feb 25 at Cacharel Grand Ballroom in Arlington. “The Foundation plans on recognizing those who have left their legacies in the AISD through the years and creating more named endowments,” Foundation President Brian White stated. “We want broad-based community support to let people know what we’re doing so we can give back even more to our classrooms.” ARLINGTON ISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION 2016 GRANT AWARDS: Corey Academy & Jones Academy Total Amount: $9,915.24 Instructors: Tammy Ledesma (Corey) & Michelle Casey ( Jones) Project: Leer!
