Student Accomplishments
January Student of the Month
Landon Hackley, Martin High School
Landon is an amazing young man who exhibits the
characteristics of leadership, maturity, commitment and
passion in each facet of his life and especially at Martin
High School.
Landon’s interests in school are related specif ically
to science and math, and he is an officer in HOSA and
he was the impetus behind the creation of Martin’s Math
Honor Society. Landon also serves on the Student Council
as the student body secretary, and he’s in the National
Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Martin
Chamber Singers. He created as a co-founder the nonprofit
organization Communities Raising Awareness of Student
Homelessness, raising more than $5,000 for either direct
donation to support teens that are homeless or for service
projects that help with supplies for homeless teens.
Landon is a creative problem solver, and he’s a person who
follows through with commitments. His goal is to pursue a
medical career. †
February Student of the Month
Manuel Mendez, Newcomer Center
Manuel is a model student who is kind, responsible and
always prepared. He is liked and respected among both his
peers and teachers at the Newcomer Center.
Manuel holds himself to a very high standard academically,
and he is always diligent with his studies. Manuel has only
been in the United States for six months, but his command
of English has grown tremendously because he works at
increasing his English vocabulary daily, often asking for help
with pronunciation or clarification of meaning. He always
wants to do his absolute best.
Manuel loves to play soccer, and he spends his extra time
caring for his younger brother while his parents work. He
is always ready and willing to help his classmates. His work
ethic and self-motivation distinguish him as a leader. †
