general aviation service area. A description of airports within a 20‐nautical mile radius of Arlington
Municipal Airport was discussed in Chapter One.
The service area for Arlington Municipal Airport is primarily bounded to the west by Fort Worth Spinks
Airport and Forth Worth Meacham International Airport. Each facility offers an array of general avia‐
tion services including aircraft fuel, aircraft maintenance, hangar storage, etc. It is estimated that ap‐
proximately 550 aircraft are based at these two airports. In addition, both facilities offer a runway
length of at least 6,000 feet, which can accommodate a large majority of general aviation aircraft.
To the east and northeast, Grand Prairie Municipal Airport and Dallas Executive Airport also cater to
general aviation demand. Both airports provide multiple services that attract general aviation activi‐
ties. Grand Prairie Municipal Airport is limited in the types of aircraft, especially business jets, it can
accommodate given its runway length of 4,000 feet. Furthermore, the airport is somewhat restricted
in future growth capabilities due to lack of available land on the airport for aviation use. Approximate‐
ly 350 based aircraft are located at Grand Prairie Municipal Airport and Dallas Executive Airport com‐
bined. These facilities will continue to play a role in limiting Arlington Municipal Airport’s service area
to the east.
To the south, Mid‐Way Regional Airport and Cleburne Regional Airport both offer several general avia‐
tion services and provide adequate runway length to accommodate many types of aircraft. These air‐
ports serve as attractive facilities for communities south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, but their
distant location will limit their potential to attract activities immediately surrounding the City of Arling‐
ton. As such, they have a limited role in determining Arlington Municipal Airport’s service area to the
south.
Situated approximately 14 nautical miles to the northeast is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Known as one of the busiest airports in the world, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport caters al‐
most exclusively to commercial airline service. As a result, it has a minimal impact on limiting Arlington
Municipal Airport’s general aviation service area to the north. Dallas Love Field, which is located ap‐
proximately 17 nautical miles northeast of Arlington Municipal Airport, also caters to scheduled com‐
mercial airline service and, in addition, contains a significant mix of business jet activity. It will play a
role in limiting Arlington Municipal Airport’s service area to the northeast.
Arlington Municipal Airport has remained a very important facility meeting the needs of general avia‐
tion operators in the region. The Airport is a hub
for business and recreational aircraft activity. In
