service level requirements, as well as forecasting aviation demand elements for airports. Aviation
forecasts are typically related to the population base, economic strength of the region, and the ability
of the region to sustain a strong economic base over an extended period of time.
For this study, historical socioeconomic data was gathered from various sources, including the United
States Census Bureau, Texas Workforce Commission, and Woods & Poole Complete Economic and De‐
mographic Data. It should be noted that only historical figures are presented in this section. Future
socioeconomic projections will be outlined in Chapter Two.
POPULATION
Trends in population provide an indication of the potential of the region to sustain growth in aviation
activity. Historical population for the City of Arlington and other incorporated areas in proximity to Ar‐
lington Municipal Airport is presented in Table 1K. Additional population data for Tarrant and Dallas
Counties, the State of Texas, and the United States is also included.

As shown in the table, all reported entities have experienced positive growth in population since 2000.
During this time, the population of Arlington has increased at an average annual growth rate (AAGR) of
1.01 percent. This translates to the addition of approximately 46,600 new residents since 2000. The
City of Fort Worth experienced substantial population growth during the same time period, posting a
3.08 percent AAGR. The City of Dallas’ population grew at a much slower rate; however, Dallas contin‐
ues to boast the largest incorporated population in the region.
Tarrant County experienced a very strong AAGR of more than two percent during this same time. This
corresponds with the strong growth for Fort Worth, which is located in Tarrant County. As a point of
comparison, the State of Texas experienced significant population growth at 1.85 percent annually.
Dallas County and the United States exhibited similar annual population increases, at 0.86 percent and
0.90 percent, respectively. The positive growth trends in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex can be at‐
tributed to availability of affordable quality homes, excellent educational institutions, employment op‐
portunities, and enjoyable recreational amenities.
