Arlington Municipal Airport Development Plan Arlington Airport Development Plan | Page 212
There are numerous potential facility layout concepts that could be considered. Generalized land use
layouts were presented in the previous chapter. The Development Concept provides a more detailed
layout of proposed landside facilities which attempts to maximize potential aviation development
space on the airfield. It also follows the design philosophy of co‐locating facilities which would be in‐
tended for similar levels of activity. For the most part, new development is planned in close proximity
to existing facilities in order to take advantage of existing infrastructure availability and reduce future
development costs.
The major landside issues addressed in the Development Concept include the following:
Construct additional aircraft storage hangars in existing development areas, as well as through the
redevelopment of certain parcels on airport property.
Construct additional aircraft parking apron space to better meet aircraft demand.
Consider separation standards associated with Taxiway A.
Designate a touch‐down and lift‐off (TLOF) area to better segregate rotorcraft and fixed‐wing air‐
craft operations.
Construct airport support facilities to include a dedicated maintenance facility and aircraft wash
rack.
Plan for vehicle access roadways on the west side of the Airport to provide opportunities for long
term development.
AIRCRAFT HANGARS
The landside development concept on Exhibit 5A establishes the location of certain hangar types by
primarily following the philosophy of separation of activity levels. The plan depicts hangar develop‐
ment/redevelopment items on the east and west sides of the Airport that includes the following:
East Side of Airport
Construction of one row of linear box hangars and two rows of large executive‐style hangars on the
northeast side of the Airport to satisfy aircraft storage and potential specialized aviation service
operators (SASOs).
Redevelopment of the City of Arlington’s T‐hangar area to include larger conventional hangars that
could support high levels of aviation activity typically associated with fixed base operator (FBO) and
SASO operations.
