considered for all lighted runway ends not planned for a more sophisticated approach lighting system. A REIL system has been installed at the Runway 16 threshold. Runway 34 is served by a MALSR. The MALSR, in conjunc- tion with the localizer antenna and glide slope antenna, provides ideal approach minimums to Runway 34. This ap- proach lighting system enhances safety at the airport, es- pecially during inclement weather or nighttime activity. The MALSR, in conjunction with the localizer antenna and glide slope antenna, provides ideal approach minimums to Runway 34. Weather Reporting Aids Arlington Municipal Airport has a lighted windcone and segmented circle, as well as additional supple- mental windcones in various locations on the airfield. The windcones provide information to pilots re- garding wind speed and direction. The segmented circle consists of a system of visual indicators de- signed to provide traffic pattern information to pilots. These should be maintained throughout the planning period. The Airport is equipped with an ASOS which provides weather observations 24 hours per day. The sys- tem updates weather observations every minute, continuously reporting significant weather changes as they occur. This information is then transmitted at regular intervals (usually once per hour). Air- craft in the vicinity can receive this information if they have their radio tuned to the correct frequency (127.375 MHz). In addition, pilots and individuals can call a published telephone number and receive the information via an automated voice recording. This system should be maintained through the planning period. Communication Facilities Arlington Municipal Airport has an operational ATCT located on the west side of Runway 16-34. The ATCT is staffed with FAA personnel from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. The ATCT enhances safety at the Airport and should be maintained through the planning period. AIRFIELD LIGHTING, MARKING, AND SIGNAGE There are a number of lighting and pavement marking aids serving pilots using the Airport. These aids assist pilots in locating an airport and runway at night or in poor visibility conditions. They also assist in the ground movement of aircraft. Chapter Three - 38
