Arlington Municipal Airport’s general service area can also be determined through an examination of
its based aircraft owners. Exhibit 2B depicts the residential (home or business) locations of current
based aircraft owners according to Airport records. This data shows that the majority of Arlington
based aircraft owners reside or do business in close proximity to the Airport. As depicted, approxi‐
mately 85 percent of based aircraft owners reside or work within 20 miles of Arlington Municipal Air‐
port.
Considering all mentioned factors, a primary service area has been determined and is illustrated on
Exhibit 2C. The primary service area encompasses the City of Arlington as well as neighboring areas in
eastern Tarrant County and a small portion of western Dallas County.
SOCIOECONOMIC PROJECTIONS
Socioeconomic conditions also provide an important baseline for preparing aviation demand forecasts.
Local socioeconomic variables such as population and employment are indicators for understanding
the dynamics of the community and can relate to local trends in aviation activity. Analysis of the de‐
mographics of the airport service area will give a more comprehensive understanding of the socioeco‐
nomic situations influencing the region which support Arlington Municipal Airport.
A variety of historical and forecast socioeconomic data has been collected for use in various elements
of this Development Plan. Aviation forecasts are related to the population base and the economic
strength of the region; therefore, it is necessary to have an understanding of the socioeconomic out‐
look for the airport service area. For this study, socioeconomic variables for the City of Arlington and
surrounding cities have been considered. Furthermore, socioeconomic data for Tarrant and Dallas
Counties has also been considered.
A summary of population and employment data within the Arlington Municipal Airport service area
and adjacent areas is presented in the following sections and includes projections for the 10‐year plan‐
ning timeframe of this study. This information will be analyzed to develop forecasts of future aviation
demand. Information was obtained from the Texas Water Development Board’s Population and Water
Demand Projections Data (2020‐2070) and Woods & Poole Complete Economic and Demographic Data.
POPULATION
Population is one of the most important elements to consider when planning for the future needs of
the airport. Table 2B summarizes forecast population estimates for those cities in the vicinity of Ar‐
lington Municipal Airport. Also included are the projected Tarrant and Dallas County populations
through the planning period of this study.
