An aircraft wash rack is currently located on the east side of the Airport. This facility allows for the
proper disposal of aircraft cleaning fluids. The plan calls for the construction of a second wash rack on
the west side of the Airport. The construction of this facility would be dictated by future development
on the west side of the airfield, and likely exceeds the 10‐year planning period of this study. Nonethe‐
less, proper planning designates an area on the west side that could accommodate a future aircraft
wash rack.
VEHICULAR ACCESS / WEST SIDE DEVELOPMENT
The City of Arlington currently has plans for Center Street to extend south, adjacent to the west side of
the Airport. Similar to the previous Master Plan, this study proposes a roadway extending east from
Center Street, providing public access to future aviation development in the west airfield area. As de‐
picted on the Development Concept, the proposed location of the vehicle access roads would allow for
significant development opportunities and could help satisfy an array of aviation demands on the Air‐
port.
While the Development Concept dedicates property on the west side for ultimate build‐out, actual
demand will dictate the timeline for future development. As previously discussed, there is still space
for aviation‐related development on the east side of the Airport, and it is likely that the majority of de‐
velopment potential at the Airport will continue to focus on the east side as it is able to better accom‐
modate near‐term development.
ENVIRONMENTAL OVERVIEW
Consideration of potential environmental impacts that could result during implementation of proposed
airport development projects, depicted on Exhibit 5A, is an important component of the Airport De‐
velopment Plan process. The purpose of the Environmental Overview is to identify FAA‐approved sig‐
nificance thresholds for the various resource categories contained in FAA Order 1050.1E, Environmen‐
tal Impacts: Policies and Procedures, and FAA Order 5050.4B, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
Implementation Instructions for Airport Actions.
The construction of any improvements depicted on the recommended development concept plan
would require compliance with NEPA to receive federal financial assistance. For projects not “categor‐
ically excluded” under FAA Order 1050.1E, compliance with NEPA is generally satisfied through the
preparation of an Environmental Assessment (EA). In instances where significant environmental im‐
pacts are expected, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) may be required. This portion of the
planning process is not designed to satisfy the NEPA requirements for a categorical exclusion (CatEx),
EA, or EIS, and is provided as preliminary review of environmental issues.
The following sections provide a description of the environmental resources which could be impacted
by the proposed ultimate airport development depicted on Exhibit 5A. Through a review of previous
