VICINITY AIRSPACE
The FAA has established an airspace structure that regulates and establishes procedures for aircraft
using the national airspace system. The airspace structure provides for two basic categories, con‐
trolled and uncontrolled. There are six classifications identified as Classes A, B, C, D, E, and G.
As depicted on Exhibit 1D, Arlington Municipal Airport operates in Class D airspace, which typically sur‐
rounds reliever airports with an ATCT. The Class D airspace consists of controlled airspace extending
upward from the surface to and including 2,000 feet mean sea level (MSL). Class D airspace typically
constitutes a horizontal radius of five miles around an airport; however, due to the presence of Grand
Prairie Municipal Airport three miles to the northeast, Class D airspace associated with Arlington Mu‐
nicipal Airport only extends approximately 1.5 miles to the east, where it transitions to Class D airspace
which envelopes Grand Prairie Municipal Airport.
