INTRODUCTION
The Federal Avia on Administra on (FAA) classifies the Arlington Municipal Airport as a public-use
“reliever” airport in the NaƟonal Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Reliever airports are large
general avia on airports located in metropolitan areas. The Airport provides a significant economic
impact to the City of Arlington and the North Texas region, serving the avia on needs of area businesses
and bringing thousands of visitors to the City each year.
The Airport Development Plan frames a 10-year period and serves as a strategic tool to establish airport
improvement priori es. It includes an evalua on of an airport’s avia on demand and offers the ra onale
for recommenda ons on airfield configura on, land use, facility development, and support facili es.
This Development Plan is being created in consulta on with a Planning Advisory Commi ee (PAC), which
consists of a diverse group of airport tenants, airport commercial operators, various City departments,
City Council members, and area neighborhood representa ves. Public Informa on Workshops will also
be held at the Airport so that anyone interested can provide feedback throughout the study process. The
general public is also invited to view the Development Plan documents and comment online.
OVERVIEW
On a na onal level, the events of September 11, 2001, and the repercussion to the na onal avia on
system are s ll affec ng the industry today. One of the most significant outcomes has been the shi of
tradi onal airline passengers to the general avia on corporate aircra fleet. General avia on airports
in large demand centers, such as the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, need to serve the growing demand
of business avia on. While high oil prices and the economic recession have caused general
