REGIONAL PLANNING ROLE
At the regional level, Arlington Municipal Airport is included in the NCTCOG’s North Central Texas Gen‐
eral Aviation and Heliport System Plan: Horizon 2035. The study analyzes existing and future facility
needs for airport and heliport development in the 16‐county region surrounding the Dallas/Fort Worth
Metroplex. The system plan, adopted in 2012, focuses on implementations related to preventing facili‐
ty encroachment and encouraging long‐term sustainability, as well as increasing capacity for the net‐
work of airports and heliports in the region.
Arlington Municipal Airport is identified as one of 11 reliever airports in the system plan. The system
plan further assigns airports to one of four categories based on their anticipated roles and sizes. Ar‐
lington Municipal Airport is included as a Category 4 airport, meaning it should be capable of handling
