looking towards 2025 In early FY2014, the Fire Department initiated a six-year business plan to address 12 key issues identified by the AFD team as we moved towards 2020. In 2020, we recognize that these issues are still relevant. Our vision of 2020 helped the Department stay on track and prepared us for an opportunistic and successful future. Those 12 issues helped us manage through changing realities as a City, a community, and as a Fire Department. We now look towards an exciting future state in 2025, and these issues will remain a driving factor as we develop strategies to improve our services to the citizens and visitors of Arlington. 12 issues that will carry the AFD forward into 2025: ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ The AFD will realize that Health Care and EMS are connected. The AFD will use “evolving” technologies. The AFD will be involved in social media and other communication systems. The AFD will continue to refine our Special Event business model and other entrepreneurial opportunities to better serve the community. The AFD will depend on new generation leaders. The AFD will see an increase in Homeland Security issues/concerns. The AFD will modify service delivery models to match community needs. The AFD will be a key player in non-traditional community issue solutions. The AFD will be prepared for increased demand for existing and new response services. The AFD will provide “Generalized” & “Specialized” Emergency Response, Life Safety and Community Support Services. The AFD will carefully manage cost and invest in operational efficiencies. The AFD will be aligned with other City Departments in achieving City Goals and Objectives. 47
