Reliable Valleywide Services (602) 722-5168 8 December 2016 T he Arizona Horse Council and Tucson Equestrian Center are excited to announce that we will be holding our first extreme trail horse competition on January 21, 2017. The event will be held at the Tucson Equestrian Center located at 8405 North Via Socorro, Tucson, Arizona 85743. This is a competition that will challenge you and your horse over a variety of obstacles. Horses will be judged on athletic ability, willingness, responsiveness and disposition. Riders will be judged on equitation, communication skills with their equine partner and general horsemanship. Overall, a smooth performance and teamwork between horse and rider will be rewarded. The course will consist of a minimum of 10 obstacles and may include a variety of man-made, natural or ranch type tasks. Obstacles may be placed inside or outside of the arena. This is not a speed event, but time on course may be used as a tie breaker. (Slow and right will beat fast and wrong!) Each obstacle has a maximum score of 20 points, 10 for the rider and 10 for the horse. Pluses may be awarded to horse and/or rider for an exceptional performance. The level of difficulty will be somewhere between regular trail type competitions and extreme cowboy races. All breeds of horses, ponies and mules are accepted. There will be three divisions: Open $65.00, Intermediate $65.00, and Novice $50.00. These are early bird prices. After January 14, 2017, there will be a late fee of $10.00. Note: we will accept entries the day of the event, but you must register by 10:00 a.m. We highly recommend that riders sign up early because the rider limit is 60. Registration will start at 8:00 a.m. and the competition will start at 10:00 a.m. We will be giving away over $600.00 in cash and prizes. (Final payout depends on participation). Open and Intermediate divisions will have ribbons through 6th place and cash prizes through 2nd place. The Novice division will have ribbons through 6th place and prizes through 3rd place. Tucson Equestrian Center (“TEC”) is a full service equine facility which offers boarding, training, layups and lessons. The facility includes ample arenas and a full assortment of obstacles. TEC is a former host to Craig Cameron Extreme Cowboy Races, so is no stranger to putting on this type of event. The Center is also located near many trails and miles of desert riding. Owner Linda Colica states, “I would like to offer Tucson equestrians some additional opportunities to compete other than in roping and barrel racing events, and I believe I have the ideal facility for this type of competition”. Limited to 60 riders! Your entries will support Arizona Horse Council programs, including trail advocacy, education and lobbying efforts.
