Preventing
Holiday
Hangovers
by: Tamisha Seals
The holidays are here and if you are
planning on indulging in a little “Holiday Cheers,” here are a few tips that
may help you prevent that Holiday
Hangover.
First, diving into that Holiday feast
might not be such a bad idea before having
a glass of spiked eggnog. Drinking after you
have eaten can reduce the formation of acetaldehyde in your stomach, a substance that is
said to be the main cause for hangovers.
Another cause for hangovers is dehydration.
You may want to have a few glasses of water, or even a vitamin water with vitamins B,
B6, and B12. These vitamins can also help in
preventing a hangover since alcohol destroys
essential b vitamins which you body needs to
bounce back after a night of drinking.
One great tip that I’ve learned is to avoid
dark liquors. Dark liquors have a higher concentration of toxins called congeners, which
are formed during fermenting and distilling.
So avoiding darker liquors could be the deciding factor in how severe your hangover is in
the morning.
Also sticking to one drink through out the
night may help you so do don’t end up sleeping with your head in the toilet. Mixing beer
and liquor has done it to me before, so I usually like to stick to one drink. There’s that old
saying “liquor before beer, you’re in the clear,
beer before liquor, you’ve never been sicker.”
Lastly if you weren’t so luck and ended up
with a morning hangover you should have a
glass of children’s pedialyte, which can restore
hydration. Heat up some leftovers, get some
rest and when you wake up, pop a few Advil
to kill that headache. Hope everyone drinks
responsibly and enjoys their holidays.
