Dear Emily,
You know that you scared me
You scared me beyond words
You said things such as suicide,
Even though you meant the world
To me and those around you
You gave us strength to fly.
But little did we know
That you were dying inside.
A victim hiding underneath
Her smile and stupid jokes,
Told no one of her father’s hate
The bruises, slaps and chokes.
But then you told me, Emily,
Not knowing what to do.
And I could say but one thing, friend,
Blame him, please don’t blame you.
The day you slit your wrists I wept,
When they found you on the floor.
Although you lived another day,
My Emily was no more.
Something snapped, and I don’t know what,
But just know this, my friend.
I’ll help with your recovery
until the very end.
Because, my dear Emily, despite your nearly-end,
You still call me yours, as do I-- my best friend
Dear Emily
