Valenzuela says, “(…) His zeal brought him to swift promotion (…) naturally he censored it with no regret”(Valenzuela 968). I got the theme from reading these two passages of this story. This explained how you shouldn’t get caught up in bad stuff and that if you give someone something you shouldn’t steal it back. Also, the author said, “ Juanito let happiness a feeling you can’t trust get the better of him”(Valenzuela 966). I got another message from this also that you shouldn’t be anxious and you cant let emotions get the best of you to cause you to do something wrong.
“The Censors,” story gave us the readers understanding of the atmosphere and a visual of how the characters progressed through the story and the actions they took part in. The imagery used by the author made it easier for me to stay interested in the story because while reading it I could think to myself, I know what that feels like or I been in that situation before. Also it taught us the readers a valuable lesson about good and bad choices. Lots of us make bad and good choices in life just like Juan did in the story. We all have the free will to do what we want when we want but it doesn’t mean that it’s the right thing to do. Language, diction, imagery, andcharacterization were all reasons of this story being so great to read.
