The rather dire situation at Eskom and the consequently escalating levels of load shedding are increasingly becoming a cause for alarm and an emergency on a national scale . The situation is of great concern , effecting us all both privately and professionally , with Eskom ’ s future as a fossil fuel based energy provider in long term jeopardy .

However , just as the Russian / Ukrainian war ’ s interruption of gas supplies to Europe is causing its own crisis , these events are forcing companies and governments to ‘ adapt or die ’, speeding up the eventual long term environmentally preferred goal of switching to more sustainable and localised forms of energy .
Although experts have welcomed the SA government ’ s move to open up the market for more sustainable energy projects and remove a lot of red tape , there is still some way to go before we can say we are seeing a long term policy swing away from fossil fuel reliance and the embrace of sustainable alternatives .
The SA business community has however firmly embraced the use of solar and large battery storage as a means of ensuring that productivity and sales are not hampered by load shedding and I believe that the installation of solar or wind energy solutions will become accepted practice for any new development in the future .
