back from the main road on one side and taking a playful stance on the position of space and scale . On the other side , the architects played with the curved lines and colours of the side cladding to create soothing lines that compliment and further enhance the elegant roof line .
Phase 3 brought another design challenge to the table . Pedestrian vehicles would be passing by much closer to the refrigerated warehouse building at slower speeds on the residential side , compared to the faster R300 . Even though the offices throughout the project were designed to be in direct contrast to the curved roof line of the bigger warehouses ( i . e . straight lines , colour , materials , scale , etc .) and thus celebrating the other ’ s individuality . The regional offices however were placed inside this curved corner of the banana ripening section of the warehouse . Preserving the overall sculptured curved body of this elegant industrial beast . Natural light was then invited inside the envelope by subtracting just the right amount massing from the façade and replacing it with glass . A roof garden was also punched into the top of the roof , creating a much needed oasis from the surrounding vehicle parking landscape .
Trust gained through a good long standing relationship with the client allowed the architect and consulting team to experiment and push the conventional boundaries of industrial warehousing . Redefining the stereotypes of what these types of building should look like .
