Architect and Builder has been featuring the SAPOA Awards of Excellence for a number of years now . Normally the awards are the culmination of the SAPOA conference and the excitement mounts at the glitzy awards dinner with the room filled with hundreds of delegates awaiting the announcement of the winners . Hopefully we will be able to experience that again soon and get together with our colleagues in the industry for a big party .

After being postponed last year , this years winners were announced online . Not quite the same buzz but , judging from the response to our awards feature , the industry still holds these awards in high esteem .

Learning more about the winning building , The Connexxion , as I edited the feature story , it struck me that this amazing working environment has most probably hardly functioned as it was intended to due to the pandemic . This is a space that should be filled with staff , collaborating and interacting with each other , making the most of this dynamic building . I certainly hope that in the near future we will be able to return to a more normal work environment . Zoom helped us run our businesses over the last year and a half but I really do miss ‘ real ’ people !

40 RUSTENBURG MALL After almost seven years of planning , Rustenburg Mall opened its doors in April 2021 . Designed by MDS Architecture , the development is a collaboration between Moolman Group , Twin City Development and JB Holdings .

48 CAPE TOWN STADIUM REVAMP The stadium ’ s upgraded hospitality facilities and suites allow for world class viewing experiences for fans of sport and music alike .

62 2020 SAPOA PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT AWARDS The SAPOA Property Development Awards for Innovative Excellence made a welcome return after being postponed last year due to Covid-19 .
