The Cape Gate Lifestyle Centre is the first development of a new retail and commercial node in the Eastern Metropole of Cape Town . The area was identified as an ‘ urban development ’ in the Urban Structure Plan of 1988 . It is an area of Cape Town that is undergoing dramatic residential growth and the Cape Gate hub will be the support system needed in close proximity to the residential component .
The site is situated 20km north of Cape Town off the N1 highway . Driving up onto the new four lane Okavango Road , widened as part of the Cape Gate scheme , there is a vista of the whole development which will , one day , include offices , residential , commercial and a 45,000m 2 regional shopping centre . The Lifestyle Centre opened on the 18th of September 2003 and sites surrounding it are already bustling with construction vehicles . It is anticipated that although local visitors will sustain the development , the excellent accessibility will pull people from the Southern Suburbs and Cape Town .
