Celestial Hall The Celestial Hall derives its name from the constellations that cover the ceiling . The ground floor is adorned by a large globe and fibre optic lighting continually highlights the constellations on the ceiling . Models of shooting stars , planets and rockets are suspended from the intense blue ceiling to add lustre to this galactic experience . The mall has an added informality in the placement of mobile barrow stalls , which offer a variety of items to the visitor .
Events Arena In addition to the retail areas , the eastern section of the scheme is centred around an open-air multi-functional deck called the Menlyn Events Arena . A variety of sport , cultural , recreational events and exhibitions can be staged here . The area can be reached from the top floor of the Cavendish Court . The semi-circular amphitheatre seating is covered by a wing-like tensile roofing structure , which seems to float above the many activities taking place . This outdoor activity area is also floodlit when necessary .
Cinemas - Including A Drive-In Theatre At the upper first floor level , a 15-screen Nu Metro cinema complex was built over the new parking levels , with a bridge link back to the upper first floor entertainment and restaurant components .
A concept devised by the design group encompassed the design and construction of a giant cinema screen - the Menlyn Park Drive-in , a world first . This is built on the roof over the parking garage , and operated by Nu Metro on behalf the Centre management . The rooftop drive-in theatre has space for 152 cars and also has several American chrome clad ‘ gas guzzlers ’ such as a 1938 Pilot , 1946 Chrysler Windsor , 1957 Studebaker and others for hire . Braai areas are supplied for early-comers and covered decks with tables and benches have also been provided . The theatre is already proving to be a great innovation . To complete the variety available to the visitor to the centre , the lower first floor is anchored by a 296- seater IMAX theatre .
