These three spaces are inter-connected in a north / south direction by a series of secondary malls , linking the spaces and ultimately linking with either open parking to the north or covered parking to the south and east . The retail component is flanked by a 7-storey parking garage to the south and a 3-level parking garage to the east . The existing open parking to the north was reconfigured , resulting in a total parking count of 5,900 bays , with 3,700 of these bays under cover .
Cavendish Court The signature space is the 4-level volume Cavendish Court with its massive translucent , shell-like , tensile roof structure as a roof covering . Designed in a tented configuration the 2,000m 2 tensile roof covers the high-tech court , held up by tubular piping and steel cabling . It consists of six sections , each attached to a steel supporting column by ratchets , which can vary the tension required by means of the supporting steel cables . The tented roof structure is visible from the external roadways , and internally the lightweight fabric allows diffused light to play over the court . Further light also comes into the court through the glass curtain wall . Conical skylights above the roof masts allow further natural light to permeate the court .
Many well known restaurants and food chain outlets , mosaics and colourful posters further highlight the vibrant exciting area . Glass lifts and escalators , glass bridges and mosaic hopscotch floor patterns are key features .
The Aviary Hall The Aviary Hall is a reconstruction of the old Bird Cage Mall and its theme is plant , bird and animal life . A host of exotic birds are housed in a double-storey aviary , which is surrounded by coffee shops and restaurants . Special lighting enhances the totally different mood in the varying levels of the Aviary Hall . The sound of birdsong of exotic birds enhances the ambience .
The lower level of the mall is named the Elephant Court , where the African theme is highlighted by the placement of a cast bronze elephant and other cast bronze baby elephants strategically placed around a large decorative pond . Sandblasted birds , indigenous to the country , appear on the glass panels of the balustrading .
Fibre optic lighting spills a wash of colour over the top level of the court , enhancing the décor with synchronised movements of colour .
This hall accommodates four main anchor tenants , who also act as a draw card to the centre .
