The importance of trees is often forgotten in poorer community developments , so the mature , existing trees were deemed an important feature to retain in the new development . Over 35 additional new indigenous trees were also planted to further green the area . A special landscaped zone has also been created around the pedestrian entrance where an outdoor stage and performance area is provided .
Conclusion Probably the biggest challenge on this project was achieving completion within the agreed time frames , despite the contractor , Rainbow Construction , being liquidated halfway through the construction period . The project managers ,
Diagonal Projects , the quantity surveyors , MLC and the client , Old Mutual Properties , in particular , but the whole team in general too , worked exceptionally hard to ensure that key deadlines were met .
The unique design resolution was achieved through close collaboration between the architects , KMH , the client ’ s in-house design advisors , the art consultant , Art Afrique , and the community workshop programmes . The mall was awarded the coveted Retail Design & Development Award from the South African Council of Shopping Centres , which recognises exceptional shopping centre design together with its economic success , within the South African property industry .
