In recent years , the Maerua Mall complex has become a popular non-central shopping centre in Windhoek due to strong demand from southern African national retailers , and as a result , it was planned to extend the complex to meet this growing need .
DEVELOPER ’ S COMMENT Having successfully completed the first phase of the Maerua Mall retail centre in Windhoek , Namibia , Stratford Property Ventures , through its Namibian subsidiary , Stratford Property Ventures Namibia , pursued the second phase of this successful development .
Phase 1 was a pioneering venture in establishing the first decentralised shopping mall and office node in Windhoek . Shortly after completion it became evident that this was now the shopping destination of choice for the majority of the city ’ s population . Development of the surrounding node followed as a logical result , and it soon became clear that phase 1 , anchored by Shoprite Checkers and other nationals , including Ster Kinekor , had to be extended to meeting the demand of shoppers .
The logical site for extending the Maerua Mall into its second phase was that on which the adjoining Municipal pool complex , diving pool , swimming clubs etc . was situated . Plans for phase 2 include a double parking basement , and an additional 20,000m 2 plus of retail space , totalling a gross building area of approximately 40,000m 2 between phases 1 and 2 .
Due to the success of the extensions of the original Maerua Park , space demand from retailers not accommodated in the first phase , created the opportunity for a second extension
