Willowbridge Lifestyle Centre is unique in that it combines a modern shopping mall with a traditional street shopping environment . The architects were first approached in 2002 by Entertainment Property Services . EPS had won the development bid for what was then known as the Minicape Site in Durbanville in 2000 . A two-year period followed in which numerous design proposals were investigated for a mixed use development . The client then looked for suitable co-developers and the site was re-zoned . In early 2005 , EPS joined forces with Kagiso Intaprop , a Johannesburg-based development company , and the joint venture development company Minicape Developments was formed .

Clients Brief From the outset , it was clear that the retail centre needed to be significantly different from its close neighbour , Tygervalley Centre , a large and successful ‘ traditional ’ regional shopping centre . Initially , the essence of the brief was to create a retail ‘ village in the valley ’, a unique lifestyle shopping experience . The architects worked closely with the client body in formulating and conceptualising the idea that this centre had to be very much lifestyle-orientated ; it should be open air and embody the notion of a linear retail high street .
The letting team had conceptualised a unique retail mix that consisted predominantly of décor , with fashion and convenience retail .
